My portrait/selfie is based off of Cindy Sherman. Sherman say’s that people believe in pictures even though they are fake. People usually believe in what they are told which makes us gullible in some ways. Sherman describes pictures as being lies. All of her pictures are her alter egos. She makes pictures that are up for interpretation. People respond to her art in different ways.
In the article The Cindy Sherman Effect, Pheobe Hoban says Cindy Sherman “invent[s] and portray[s] extraordinary alter egos and multiple identities that brilliantly reflect our image-saturated culture—and in the process [she] invent[s] her own genre.” Sherman is not bound by any rules or morals. She expresses her self in a way other artists would never dream of doing.
For my portrait I looked up Sherman’s work on the internet and I decided to base it off of an untitled piece of hers. The reason I chose this particular peice is because I personally believe that I am a high energy person but I’ve been told by my peers that I come off as laid back and lethargic. I feel as if this picture represents how other people see me.
