BLACK AND WHITE

Cindy Sherman is known to have a street persona and usually walks the streets of New York drawing inspiration. A lot of her work deals with these amazing angels and she believes an angle can change the face. Her work isn’t to show some pretty role model it’s more like old people, monsters, unflattering or things you don’t see often. Often times she doesn’t know what she’s going after until after she’s shot or done several shots. She also doesn’t know what she’s done until people have written about it. 25:03
She considers her camera as a paintbrush. “Through the photograph, you can make people believe anything,” Sherman said. The fact she gives the credit to the person behind the camera and not the cameras doing shows how humble she is about her work. She believes it’s more interesting to show work that we might never see.

Her work is usually never planned out showing us how creative she is, that it’s not some hidden desire. Her interior shots were very vintage-like and messy. It was said she usually just throws stuff in a corner making it look like a motel room of some sort. Cindy Sherman originally wanted to have the look of old films in her pieces where you could find in a cheap bin at a thrift store. I feel like she does a great job doing this, they feel so old school and gives me a vintage vibe with the black and white.
She loves to keep her work up in the air and have the audiences depict the meaning of them. Which is why you see so many expressionless faces in her pieces. I love this because the answers, the meaning of her artwork can be endless. There’s a lot of platinum blondes in her artwork, which was the trend back in her time representing what Hollywood really was at the time.
In my opinion, her work is very raw and I feel such a realistic touch when looking at her pieces. Her work doesn’t scream feminist to me which was an argument about her work. It was said her favorite movies are horror movies. You can get a sense of that through how gritty and none flattering some of these pictures are. This inspired my selfie because I didn't plan this I didn't even know how it was going to go down. I knew I wanted my picture to be black and white. Also, oftentimes I make art I usually just go it without any real direction of where I'm going. I'm also a fan of getting them angles which Cindy Sherman does so well which inspired me with this photo. I loved the angle and how you can see the buildings in the background which don't take away from the expressionless beauty of her and me in these two pictures.
