As the reading says, "Sherman's coup was to cast herself as subject matter, making each of her staged characters the star of an implicit narrative." Her portraits were all based on an alter ego she created. Mirroring this effect, I decided to take a self portrait based on my alter ego as well. She's seemingly boujee but is mostly confident and bold. Her eyes are seemingly daring but are her main force to allure you.
As a person, I rarely take risks. So, the glass in the image is representative of a rebellious nature. She doesn't really care how others see her. Her hands frame her face, as to say, "Here I am." She cares about her looks and face. The one hand caressing her face has gloves to show this, whilst her other holding the wine is without.
My portrait isn't truly based on one of Sherman's own portrait as much as it is based on her method of creating alter egos. I did, however, use one of her portraits to influence the aesthetics. Looking at the image you will be able to see what inspired me. This isn't listed in the readings but it is indeed an alter ego she created.
